Berberis Thunbergii– A spiny deciduous shrub which grows up to 0.5 to 1.5m in height and in spread. The small leaves are a green to blue-green colour during the spring and summer months turning to red during the autumn. The small yellow flowers appear in mid spring, formed into drooping umbrella shaped clusters. The combination of colours as well as its dense thorny habit, combine to create an impenetrable barrier which also brings year-round colour, making Berberis an effective hedging plant.
Fruit: The small and edible fruit is a bright red to orange colour and an oval shape.
Soil Type/ Habitat: Grows well in most soil types, but prefers moist but well drained soil. Will tolerate partial shade but grows best in full sun.
