A large, heavy-branched tree with glossy dark green oval shaped leaves that turn to yellow in the autumn. The Black Poplar is fast-growing.
Fruit: Female catkins open when ripe to release lots of white cottony hairs that carry the seeds.
Timber: The timber is soft, light and nearly white. It can be used for pallets, plywood and general purposes. It is not very good for firewood as it has a low flammability. Parts of the tree can be are still are used for medical purposes.
Soil Types / Habitat: They thrive in most soil types. It can be found in wet woodlands and beside streams.
