Rosa Spinossisima (Burnet Rose)- A native low growing rose that is often used for ground cover planting. Its delicate white scented flowers appear in the spring, dotted among its small dark green foliage. In contrast to its white flowers, its hips are a dark purple, almost black. The height and habit of the burnet rose is relative to the growing conditions. In poorer soils, generally the rose will grow no more than 60cm in a spreading habit, but where conditions are favourable it can be found to reach up to 2 meters. Overall a very hardy shrub which can be found growing all over the Uk, including coastal areas.
Fruit: Produces dark fruits in the autumn
Soil Types/Habitat: It will grow well in most soil types, including sandy soils. Suitable for most habitats but best to avoid planting in exposed and windy sites.
