Salix Elaeagnus (Hoary Willow)- A fast growing amenity shrub ideal for creating tall screens and shelter belts. Hoary willow grows in an upright habit with long thin green/grey leaves, which can reach up to 20cm long. Like the rest of the willow family, hoary willow is a deciduous plant which does best when planted into moist soils, close to river banks and wetlands.
Fruit: Female catkins open when ripe to release lots of white cottony hairs that carry the seeds.
Soil Types/Habitat: It will grow in most soil types but does best when planted in full sun, close to water sources. Its extensive roots help to prevent soil erosion.
